ACCESS NewspaperArchive

Access NewspaperARCHIVEcontains millions of searchable newspaper pages, dating as far back as the 1700s.  NewspaperARCHIVE.com., the world’s largest archive of online newspapers, is providing this valuable research tool.  Content on Access NewspaperARCHIVE is a unique primary resource for students, as newspapers provide information as news happened and not necessarily the way it was remembered.

You can now use NewspaperARCHIVE to access historic Eau Clairenewspapers from 1858-1923.  The library’s newspaper microfilm for that period has been scanned and put into a searchable database, making it easy to explore historical content.

To access NewspaperARCHIVE:

Quick Search:

A Quick Search is the most basic search by keyword.  After typing in your keyword (s) in the Quick Search box located at the top of the page and clicking on “Search Now”, you are then given a list of search results with excerpts from those newspaper pages which feature your search terms.

Advanced Search:

Advanced Search provides three steps to help you narrow down your search results.  Each step is optional, but the more information that is provided, the more specific the search and your results will be.

  • Entering Keywords allows you to perform Boolean Searching and you have the option of using any of the provided fields:  keywords that contain all of the words, the search phrase exactly as you typed it, at least one of the words, or without the words.
  • The Publication Date field allows you to specify or date range to search within.
  • Selecting Publication allows you to narrow your results by Country, by State, by City and then by Publication within that City.

By choosing the Browse Available Newspaper tab, you are then able to perform your search by location, by date, or choose from an alphabetical listing of newspaper titles. Doing an alphabetical search for E for Eau Claire gives you a listing of all of the Eau Claire newspapers contained in NewspaperArchive

Your Search Results page will list your search and the number of results found.  Simply click on the newspaper title to view the desired article.

Once you have your search results and have found the article you need, you are then able to print just the part you want.

  • Use the Zoom tool to enlarge the item for viewing or printing.
  • Use the Snapshot tool to mark around the text or image you want to copy.
  • Or use the Select tool to select text and images for copying and pasting.

Another feature of NewspaperArchive is the Resources tab located at the top of the page.  This is a list of high interest topics such as Abraham Lincoln, Global Warming, Pearl Harborand more.  Each topic contains related articles, timelines, and other informational web sites and resources.
