Foundation Grants to Individuals Online |

The Library is a Foundation Center Cooperating Collection Network member. The Foundation Center is the nation’s leading authority on philanthropy and maintains the most comprehensive database on U.S.grantmakers and their grants as well as operating research, education and training programs designed to advance philanthropy at every level. As a Cooperating Collection of the Foundation Center, the Library has access to two major Foundation Center Databases: Foundation Directory Online Professional and Foundation Grants to Individuals Online.
Available only on Internet workstations at the library, the Foundation Grants to Individuals Online is a database of more than 6,500 foundation and public charity programs that fund students, artists, researchers and other individual grantseekers.
To access Foundation Grants to Individuals Online:

Log on to any Internet station located in the Reference area using your first name, last name and library card number.

From the desktop, click on Internet Explorer.

To beng searching, click on the Search button to the right.
Foundation Search Screen:

There are nine Search Fields available on the Foundation Search Screen eight of which are tied to indexes that are accessible by clicking on the underlined phrase next to the Search field. These fields include Foundation Name, State, City, Field of Interest, Types of Support, Geographic Focus, Company Name and School Name and Text or keyword search.

To conduct an Index Search, click on an index name such as Foundation City on the Search Screen.

Located to the left of each Search Screen, the Index pane lists all of the entries in a selected index. The entries are alphabetical and to access entries beginning with other letters of the alphabet, click on the underlined letter at the top of the Index pane.

Locate the index entry you wish to include in your search and click on it. Clicking an index entry automatically pastes your selection into the search field.

Click on the Search button once you have selected all of the criteria you wish to include in your search. Your results appear in the Search Results list.

After clicking on a foundation record listed in the Search Results list, information about that entry will be displayed. The content of entries varies based on the availability of information from the foundations. In most instances, data included are the foundation name, address and telephone, contact person, grantmaker type, fields of interest, geographic focus, types of support, application information, EIN, 990s, and more.

A Text or keyword Search allows you to retrieve records by searching its complete contents unlike an Index Search which only searches indexed text fields. As an example, conducting an Index Search for Eau Claire using as the Foundation City resulted in 3 listings while doing a Keyword Search for Eau Claire resulted in 6 listings.

Type in the keyword or phrase in the Text Search field. Unless you include a Boolean operator, your keywords will be interpreted as a phrase.

Your search results are displayed on the Search Results Screen and offer the same information about the Foundation as is found when doing an Index Search.
