City & County Government Phone Numbers

You may need to contact various Eau Claire city or county government departments with your questions, concerns or informational needs. The City of Eau Claire's web site (http://www.eauclairewi.gov) provides a Directory of City Departments which includes location, hours, telephone and fax numbers and an e-mail address for the contact person of that particular department. Eau Claire County web site ( http://www.co.eau-claire.wi.us) provides a departments directory as well.

Frequently requested city and county government phone numbers (all Area Code 715) include:

Animal Complaints: Animal bites and rabid animal complaints are handled by the City/County Health Department (839-4718). Barking dog complaints and dogs and cats running loose can be directed to the Police Department (839-4972).
Assessor/Property Taxes: How a property is assessed, how the value is established and determining ownership of property within the City can be answered by the City Assessor (839-4926). Property tax questions and payment should be directed to the Eau Claire County Treasurer's Office (839-4805).
Birth/Death Certificates: Eau Claire County Register of Deeds (839-4745).
Building Code/Permits: The Inspections Division administers and enforces the Building Code, issues permits and conducts building inspections (839-4947).
Burning Permits: Needed for burning grass, leaves, small brush, etc.and available at all City fire stations. To find out if permits can be issued, call the 24-hour Burning Permit Hotline (839-3882).
Bus Service: The Eau Claire Transit System provides city bus service, Monday-Saturday. Call the Transit System (839-5111) for route, time and fare information.
Cemeteries: The City owns and maintains two cemeteries, Forest Hill, 822 Emery Street (839-5042), and Lakeview, 1500 Buffington Drive (839-5041). Also contact either the Forestry Division (839-5039) or the Parks & Recreation Department (839-5032) for additional information.
Child Support: Eau Claire County Child Support Agency (839-4770).
City/County Clerks: City Clerk (839-4912) and County Clerk (839-4801).
City Manager: Contact the City Manager's office (839-4902) with your questions or concerns regarding City policies, procedures and information about City services.
District Attorney: District Attorney's Office (839-4828).
Elections: For information regarding absentee ballots or voter registration, contact the City Elections Office (839-4913). To obtain or to file nomination papers for City Council Elections, contact the City Clerk's Office (839-4912).
Fairfax Pool: The Fairfax Park Municipal Swimming Pool (839-1680) is located at 4200 Fairfax Street. The pool opens at the end of May and closes at the end of August.
Fire Department: The City's main fire station is located at 216 S. Dewey. For general information, call (839-5012) during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Health Department: The City/County Health Department (839-4718) is located in the Eau Claire County Courthouse at 720 2nd Avenue. Provides public health and environmental health services to all City and County residents and answers questions regarding such concerns as food and water safety, garbage and trash complaints, health hazards and housing maintenance complaints.
Hobbs Municipal Ice Center: The Hobbs Ice Center, located at 915 Menomonie Street, (839-5040) is open year-round and features two artificial ice surfaces with an adjacent outdoor natural ice rink.
Housing Authority: The Housing Authority (839-4943) administers federal funds to provide housing assistance and low income housing to qualifying individuals and families. The Housing Authority also provides rental assistance to low-income, elderly, handicapped, and disabled persons and families with minor children.
Inspections: The City's Inspection Services Division (839-4947) reviews plans, issues permits and inspects all new construction and remodeling work within the City of Eau Claire. Included is work relating to building construction, heating and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing and sign installation as well as enforcing City ordinances relating to the floodplain, zoning, property upkeep and land use.

Library: The L. E. Phillips Memorial Public Library is located at 400 Eau Claire St. For a menu of library department phone numbers, call (839-1684).
Licenses: Various licenses are required by the City in order to conduct your business. Some of these include bartender, taxicab driver, tree trimmers, restaurants, junk dealers, flea markets and more. Contact Customer Services (839-4923) at City Hall for applications and additional information.
Neighborhood Associations: Contact the Planning Division (839-4914) for information on existing neighborhood associations.
Parking/City Lots & Ramps: The Parking Utility (839-4923) division of Public Works (839-4934) provides for the operation and maintenance of Downtown Parking Ramps, City-owned parking lots, and on-street parking meters. For information on parking regulations and ordinances, call the Special Services Bureau (839-4993) of the Police Department.
Parks/Recreation: The City offers recreational programs, classes and activities for both youth and adults as well as providing summer playground programs. Contact the Parks & Recreation Department (839-5032) to register for programs or for more information. The Parks & Recreation Maintenance Division (839-5032) is responsible for maintaining six community parks, city recreation trails, sports and athletic fields, ice rinks, boat landings, and provides support for special events and community festivals.
Police/Sheriff Departments: The Eau Claire Police Department is located at 740 2nd Avenue in the Eau Claire County Courthouse. For non-emergencies call (839-4972). The Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office is located at 728 2nd Avenue in the Eau Claire County Courthouse. Call Administration at (839-4709) and the Jail at (839-4702).
Probate/Guardianships: Register in Probate (839-4823).
Recycling Program: Recycling Program (839-6190).
Snow Removal: The City Code requires property owners keep sidewalks free from snow and ice within 24 hours after each snowfall. Complaints should be directed to the Streets Maintenance Division (839-4963). The Streets Maintenance Division (839-4963) of the Public Works Department (839-4934) is responsible for snowfall removal on city streets. During heavy snow accumulation, the City will plow the 16 primary snow routes before beginning in the residential neighborhoods. Snowplows operate around the clock until all City streets have been plowed curb to curb.
Streets: Streets Maintenance (839-4963), located at 910 Forest Street, is responsible for the care and maintenance of the City streets, traffic signs, pavement markings, storm sewers, catch basins and culverts. Report potholes and any other hazardous street conditions to Streets Maintenance.
Traffic Signs/Signals: Call the Public Works Department (839-4934) for questions regarding location and installation of traffic signs and signals or to report damage or traffic signals not in operation.
Veterans' Service Officer: The Veterans' Service Officer (839-4744) exists to advise and assist veterans and their families to obtain all benefits they may be eligible for.
Water and Sewer: Contact the Utilities Division of the Public Works Department (839-5045). Water and sewer bills may be paid by mail, at Customer Service at City Hall or at drop boxes located at grocery stores throughout the City. If water service is frozen, if a water meter is leaking, broken, or inoperable, or for sewer back-ups, call Utilities Administration (839-5045) weekdays between 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. or after hours, call (839-4967).
