Indianhead Federated Library System

The Indianhead Federated Library System (IFLS), located at 1538 Truax Blvd. in Eau Claire, is a state-funded agency established under Chapter 43 of the Wisconsin Statutes. Its purpose is to provide services to its member libraries and to ensure that all area residents have access to public libraries. IFLS members include 53 public libraries and 4 county library services in 10 west-central Wisconsin counties. These counties include: Barron, Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Price, Rusk, and St. Croix. Affiliate libraries in the 10-county area include: 165 public and parochial school libraries, 11 University or technical college libraries, 11 corporate or special libraries, and many church libraries. The Indianhead Federated Library System is governed by a 20-person board appointed by County Board Chairs.

Resource sharing is one of the major services provided by IFLS. These services include support for shared automated systems, Internet access, a Wide Area Network and delivery service. IFLS serves as a regional interlibrary loan clearinghouse which coordinates and allows libraries to borrow materials from each other. IFLS staff are also available to answer questions about managing a library, explain legislation and statuatory requirements affecting libraries, provide continuing education and consulting for library staff, help with grants and financial assistance, supplement local services with the Library Books-By-Mail program, help librarians effectively use technology, and much more.
