Placing a hold on an item

Holds may be placed on all circulating items found in the MORE online catalog and may be placed through the online catalog at http://www.more.lib.wi.us/ or at the library.  When it is your turn for the item-whether it's a book, video, CD...any item than can be checked out-it will be delivered to the MORE library of your choice and you will be notified that it is ready for pick up.

To Place a Hold:

Once you are at the screen showing the item you want, click on the yellow Request Item button located at both the top and bottom of the page.

  • Enter your name and then press the TAB key.
  • Enter your library card number and then press the TAB key.
  • Choose a pickup location from the drop-down list of MORE libraries.
  • Click on the Submit button.
  • You should be given the prompt that your request was successful.
  • If you are placing a hold on record with multiple issues such as a magazine or a record such as a CD that contains both the CD and the accompanying booklet, you will prompted to "Choose one item from the list below" before you hold can be completed.  Simply click on the radio button in front of the item you would like and submit your request.
  • There is a limit of 50 holds per library card.

You may choose to be notified one of three ways when your hold becomes available:

  • Telephone notification service (TNS) will automatically call you when your library item is ready to be picked up.  If your are not home, it will leave a message on your answering machine or voice mail.
  • E-mail notification is also an easy way to become informed of items that are ready for you at the library.  If you would like to participate, please send an e-mail containing the e-mail address you would like us to use to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and place "NEW ADDRESS" in the subject line.
  • If you prefer to be notified through the mail, please contact Circulation Services at 715-839-5003.

Freezing Holds:

Are you leaving on vacation and are almost at the top of the list for one of your holds?  Will too many of your holds come in around the same time?  If so, you can now place your holds "on ice."  When you freeze a hold, you will keep your place in line while other holds skip over you until you reactivate your hold.

To Freeze a Hold:

  • Log into My Account using your name and library card number.
  • Click on your Holds list.
  • The Holds screen displays a Freeze column next to each request.
  • Check the box by the request or requests you want to freeze and then click on Update List.
  • To take the "freeze" off of your hold, uncheck the box in the Freeze column and click on Update List.
  • Your hold will continue to move up the list, or, if at the top of the list, the next item checked in will be sent to you.

Please note:  Library staff cannot take the freeze of a hold for you; you must do this yourself from your account in the MORE catalog.
